Juho Pohjonen

Piano

Juho Pohjonen is one of Finland's most esteemed pianists. A graduate of the Sibelius Academy, he began his studies in the junior academy under Meri Louhos and earned his master's degree under the guidance of Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna. Successes in the International Maj Lind Competition in 2002 and the Nordic Piano Competition in Nyborg in 2004 propelled Pohjonen to international concert stages, where he continues to perform as one of the most active Finnish pianists.

Pohjonen is one of the few Finnish musicians whose performances, both in chamber music and as a soloist, are heavily concentrated in the United States. He has performed as a soloist with the Cleveland and Minnesota orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the San Francisco Symphony. For years, he has also been a core musician of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. During the 2024–25 season, he will perform Grieg's Piano Concerto as a soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra, appear at London’s Wigmore Hall, and continue his collaboration with the Lincoln Center.

In addition to his performances, Pohjonen has developed the groundbreaking MyPianist app, which he launched in 2019. The app allows musicians to practice with an AI-powered virtual accompanist that listens and reacts in real time to the player's tempos and dynamics. His latest recording, Visionaries of the Keyboard, released under the Orchid Classics label, features works by Rameau and Scriabin.
