Eriikka Nylund
Viola
Eriikka Nylund is an active orchestral and chamber musician who has performed at numerous festivals in the Nordic countries and around the world. She began her violin studies at the age of five in her hometown of Kotka. Ten years later, she changed to the viola and started studying at the Sibelius Academy under the tutelage of Teemu Kupiainen. She continued her studies in Salzburg and Basel with Thomas Riebl and Hatto Beyerle. Nylund was a member of the string quartet Meta4 in 2000–2006, during which time the quartet won first prize at the Dimitri Shostakovits Competition in Moscow. In 2001 she won first prize at the Nordic Viola Competition in Helsinki.
Since 2007 Nylund has worked as a solo violist with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed frequently as soloist of the orchestra, premiering many works. Nylund has also worked as a solo violinist with the Finnish National Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Her instrument is a Cerruti viola, owned by the Järnåker Foundation.
