Helena Juntunen

Helena Juntunen is currently one of Finland's most dazzling young sopranos to have established an international career. The role of Marguerite in Gounod's Faust at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in 2002 can be considered as Juntunen’s professional breakthrough. Her most recent international debuts have been Mozart-roles Pamina, Contessa Almaviva and Donna Elvira, Mimì in Puccini’s opera La Bohème, Tatjanan in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Marietta in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt, Jenny in Kurt Weill’s the Rise and Fall of the City of Mahoganny, Chrysothemis in Strauss’ Elektra, Marie in Berg’s Wozzeck, and name-roles in Madama Butterfly, Kata Kabanova, and Salome.
Helena Juntunen has performed in many international opera houses including in Brussels, Nancy, Minnesota, Vienna, Aix-en-Provence, Dresden, Gothenburg, Montpellier, Strasbourg, Hong Kong, and Genoa.
In 2022–23 Juntunen performed the name-role in Verdi’s Aida at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Marie in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck at the Staatsoper, and Elsi in Franz Schreker’s rare piece Der Schatzgräber at Strasbourg among others. Juntunen is familiar with the world’s most esteemed concert stages in Tokyo, Berlin, New York, Paris, Amsterdam, and London.
