Jerry Piipponen
Percussions
Jerry Piipponen is a percussionist originally from Lahti, currently living in Helsinki. Having studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Sibelius Academy, Piipponen played as a substitute in the Finnish National Opera Orchestra from 2016 to 2018 before becoming the assistant principal percussionist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Piipponen has been teaching percussion at the Sibelius Academy since 2022.
In addition to his work in orchestral music, Piipponen has been involved in founding the Awake Percussion quartet and the Chaos Ensemble, consisting of flute, saxophone, guitar, and percussion. Apart from his musical endeavors, Piipponen enjoys roles such as the chairman of the Chamber Music Society of Percussionists and the vice-chairman of the orchestra delegation at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Beyond music and organization, his daily life is enriched by family, renovating a traditional house, and participating in triathlons.
