Lauttasaari Church

  • Fanny Mendelssohn (1805–1847): String Quartet in E-flat major (1834)

  • Philip Glass (*1937): String Quartet No. 3 ‘Mishima’ (1985)

  • Felix Mendelssohn (1809–1947): String Quartet Op.13 (1827)

Carducci Quartet

Fanny and Felix were equally talented children of a cultured family, receiving similar education. However, Fanny's chances of having her works published during her time were minimal compared to her brother, who was celebrated as a top talent in German music. Philip Glass is one of the most prolific and influential American composers of the 20th century. He dedicated his third String Quartet to the Japanese writer Yukio Mishima, whose radical life shook the conventional norms, and the quality of his work led to a Nobel Prize nomination.
