Otto Antikainen
Violin
Violinist Otto Antikainen performs as both an orchestral soloist and a chamber musician. He has appeared as a soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, the Joensuu City Orchestra, and the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, among others. In the 2024/25 season, he will perform as a soloist with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Antikainen has performed at numerous festivals, including the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the Gstaad New Year Music Festival, and the Tampere Chamber Music Festival.
Antikainen won third prize at the Kuopio Violin Competition in 2020. He also won the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition in 2016 and received special prizes at the Menuhin Violin Competition in Geneva in 2018 and the Carl Flesch Violin Competition in Hungary in 2023.
Otto Antikainen began his violin studies at the Käpylä Music Institute under Hannele Lehto and studied in the Sibelius Academy’s Junior Department under Réka Szilvay. He has since continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Antje Weithaas and at the Sibelius Academy with Cecilia Zilliacus.
Antikainen plays a 1760 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, on loan from the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
