Aino Yamaguchi

Violin

Aino Yamaguchi (b. 2003) began playing the violin at the age of five at Kerava Music Institute and continued her studies at the East Helsinki Music Institute. She is currently studying at the Sibelius Academy under Réka Szilvay and at the Hochschule für Musik Basel FHNW in Switzerland with Barbara Doll. Previously she studied in the Youth Department of the Sibelius Academy under Réka Szilvay. Yamaguchi has also studied at the Violin Academy with teachers such as Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä. She has participated in masterclasses taught by renowned violinists including Miriam Fried, Leonidas Kavakos, and Mi-kyung Lee.

In 2023, Aino Yamaguchi was selected as one of the four first prize winners in the Anja Ignatius Violin Competition. She won the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition in Jyväskylä in 2022 and was awarded second prize in the same competition in 2019 in the younger age category.

As a soloist, Yamaguchi has performed with orchestras such as the Jyväskylä Sinfonia and Wegelius Chamber Strings. She is a member of the Arda String Quartet, founded in 2023 in Basel. The quartet received a special prize at the Orpheus Chamber Music Competition in Switzerland in the autumn of 2024.
